Tips to Prevent Chainsaw Bar Overheating in Future

Chainsaws are an essential tool in any woodcutter’s arsenal, but they also have their drawbacks. One of them is that the chainsaw bar can overheat when used for too long. Luckily, there are some tricks to prevent your chainsaw from overheating and becoming unusable.

1.   Make sure your chainsaw chain tension is perfect

The chainsaw chain tension is the most important thing to check when you want your saw running correctly. The chainsaw bar constantly rotates at high speeds, so it needs to be taut enough not to slip off the motor sprocket. If there’s too much slack in your chain, this will affect how well it cuts. The tension has to be just right, so don’t overdo it. An excellent way to check the tension is by using a screwdriver or wrench on your chainsaw bar. If you can move the saw back and forth slightly, there’s not enough tension in the chain.

2.   Don’t start the operation if your saw doesn’t have enough bar oil.

Another common cause of chainsaw bar overheating is running out of bar oil. Chainsaws rely on the motor sprocket to rotate, but this can’t happen properly if there isn’t enough lubricant in your saw chain. This doesn’t just mean that your cut will suffer because it won’t be sharp enough; it also means that the saw bar will overheat because there isn’t enough oil to cool everything down.

3.   Always use a sharp chain.

When you use a dull chainsaw chain, the engine has to work harder to turn it. This means that more power is being used than necessary, making your saw overheat quicker than expected. This will affect how fast you can cut through wood and shorten the life of your saw’s motor. To avoid overheating, always make sure that your chainsaw chain is sharp enough to do the job.

4.   Frequently clear the chainsaw bar groove.

When you use your chainsaw for too long, sawdust can accumulate in the grooves of your chain. This makes it even harder to turn and will end up overheating much faster than normal. If there’s a lot of dust built-up, then clear it out regularly using an old toothbrush or another soft object.

5.   Don’t attempt to start cutting if your chainsaw has a bent chainsaw bar.

The chainsaw bar is one of the most important parts when it comes to cutting wood. If it’s bent in any way, then your saw will run less efficiently and risk overheating and becoming unusable.
